Serafina Restaurant

Location: Istanbul, TR Type: F&B Photographer: İbrahim Özbunar - 645 Studio Developed for Serafina, this project explores the relationship between spatial narrative and social experience within the typology of the contemporary restaurant. The design reinterprets the Italian dining tradition as an immersive and evolving spatial condition rather than a fixed aesthetic language. At its core, the project is driven by the idea that architecture operates as a mediator of atmosphere. The spatial organization is conceived as a continuous sequence, where transitions between entry, bar, and dining areas are carefully choreographed to establish rhythm, orientation, and visual connectivity. Rather than relying on iconic gestures, the project builds its identity through the layering of material, light, and surface. Elements such as the wine display, vertical shelving systems, and panoramic mural function not only as visual features but as devices that structure perception and movement. The ceiling, articulated as a wooden lattice, acts as a unifying architectural layer, recalibrating the scale of the interior while reinforcing spatial continuity. Meanwhile, the integration of a live performance area positions the restaurant as a dynamic social environment, where architecture accommodates both stillness and activity. The project proposes a shift from image-driven design toward experience-driven architecture—where the success of the space is measured not only by its visual impact, but by the quality of interaction, memory, and atmosphere it produces.
